SCALLOP EDGED NO SEW FLEECE THROW TUTORIAL

I'm almost done with this series of fleece blankets. I've created one for each member of my family with a different edging method. 

Here are all the different styles:

Today we are making the scallop edge blanket.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR A SCALLOP FLEECE BLANKET

• fleece
• scissors and ruler, OR cutting mat, rotary cutter and straight edge

I find a rotary cutter makes quick work of cutting the strips on the end of the blanket. Scissors work best for rounding the corners and can be used for the whole project if you don't have a rotary cutter. 

How much fleece do you need for a blanket? 

Here's my suggestion:

Baby blanket - 1 yard (will make 2) Child Blanket - 1 1/2 yard
Adult / Teen Blanket - 2 yards

HOW TO MAKE A FLEECE BLANKET WITH A SCALLOPED EDGE

The first step is to straighten any wonky edges from when they cut the fabric at the store.

You'll also want to remove selvage edge. 

This is a single layer blanket. 
   

Begin by cutting a two inch square from each corner of the fleece.

  

Next measure every two inches and make a cut. The cut should be 2 inches deep.

Tip: Use a piece of masking tape to mark two inches, then all the cuts will be the same length. If you don't have a cutting mat, you can make markings on the tape every two inches to use as your cutting guide. Work in sections and move the tape as needed. 

Next, simply cut a curve along the bottom of each strip. You can see my first few attempts were somewhat uneven. 

As I went I learned that just rounding the corners each strip helped me keep the cuts more uniform and tidy.
