HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE FLEECE BLANKET (NO SEW WITH CUTE EDGING)
A few years back I bought a bunch of fleece, intending to make blankets for my kids for Christmas.Well you know how busy Christmastime is. I never ended up getting around to it. I kept putting it off until the next year.
Well this year, Christmas came and went and I still didn't make the blankets.
But then I decided to just make them now.
I made each blanket using a different method. I'll be sharing them here over the next few weeks.
Today's blanket is a simple fringe blanket with a cute 'tag' edge. (Anyone have a better way to describe it? I'm coming up empty.)
It's so easy to make.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR A SINGLE LAYER FLEECE BLANKET
- fleece (see below for yardage suggestions)
- rotary cutter, straight edge and mat OR scissors and ruler/tape measure
However, I realize that if you don't sew and want to make a no-sew blanket, you probably don't have those tools.
Don't worry, you can totally make this with sharp scissors and a ruler.
HOW MUCH FLEECE DO YOU NEED FOR A BLANKET?
How much fleece you need to make a blanket depends on the size of the blanket. See below for a good rule of thumb.Baby blanket - 1 yard fleece. This will be cut in half make two baby blankets that are approximately 28-30 inches x 36 inches. (You don't want to do 1/2 yard, because that will make the blanket only 18 inches wide.)
Child blanket - 1 1/2 yard fleece.
Teen / Adult blanket - 2 yards fleece. You can do 2 1/2 yards for the tall people in your life.

HOW TO MAKE A SINGLE LAYER FLEECE BLANKET
The great thing about fleece (besides how soft and cuddly it is) is that it doesn't fray. That means you cut it, it won't unravel.
It makes it ideal for a no sew blanket.
The first thing I do is to square up the ends of the fabric. I leave it folded, just like it comes off the bolt.
I find that it is often kind of wonky from when they cut it at the store. I trim it up so each end is nice and straight.
Next, we need to remove the selvage edge. This is the curled edges that have the manufacturer information on it.
I simply fold the fabric in half with the selvage edges together and cut both ends at the same time.
I like to work with two sides of the fabric at the same time. So fold the fabric in half and line up the edges. This saves time because you can essentially cut both sides at once.
Cut a 2 inch square from each corner.
Next cut a 2 inch deep cut, every 2 inches.
Continue down the length of the fabric.
Next cut out a triangle from each strip.
The point of the triangle should be about one inch from the edge in the center of the strip. I start at the corner and cut at an angle towards the middle.
I just eyeball it. It's not perfect.
Once you have finished these sides, fold the other way and repeat on the other two sides.
