Bows are so hot right now and I'm loving it.
Make a fleece blanket with a dainty bow edge!
This blanket is no-sew, you'll just need some fleece and something to cut with.
It's perfect for baby showers, a little girls birthday or make one for yourself.
ADORABLE NO SEW FLEECE BLANKET WITH BOWS
I am so stinkin' excited about this blanket. This is going to be my new go-to for baby blankets.
Check out the video where I go through my thought process and trial and error to create these adorable bows.
This is part of my fleece blanket series where I made a different style of blanket for each member of my family.
Here's the different styles I came up with:
- Fleece Blanket with Triangle Edge
- Simple Fleece Blanket with a cute edging
- Small Fringe Fleece Blanket
- Fringe Fleece Blanket (double layer no-knot variety)
- Fleece Blanket with Scallop Edge
BUT it's also the cutest.
So you gotta make at least one!

SUPPLIES NEEDED A BOW FLEECE BLANKET
- fleece
- cutting mat, rotary cutter and straight edge OR scissors and ruler
- crochet hook
- seam ripper
I use a rotary cutter. This is really helpful to cut all those strips quickly. However, a pair of sharp scissors works as well.
Yardage needed for fleece blankets with bows:
You will need slightly more fleece to make the bows than is typically required for a fleece blanket. You will need 1/8 yard more for baby and child sized blankets. Add an extra 1/4 yard for adult blankets.Below are yardage recommendations that include the extra amount needed.
- Baby blanket - 1 1/8 yard (makes 2 blankets)
- Child Blanket - 1 5/8 yard
- Teen / Adult Blanket - 2 1/4 yard
HOW TO MAKE A FLEECE BLANKET WITH A BOW EDGE
I made a video, so make sure to check that out!The very first step for making a fleece blanket is to remove the selvage edge.
Next make the strips to tie the bows.
Cut a 4 inch strip of fleece. Cut the strip into 4 inch squares.
Next determine the stretch of the fleece. If you try to stretch it one direction, it doesn't have much give.
If you try to stretch it the the other direction it will have a lot of give. Cut the strips with the stretch. As opposed to across the stretch.
For example, if the stretch is up and down as in the bottom half of the above collage, then cut the strips up and down as well.
The cut into 1/2 inch strips. Repeat with all the four inch squares.
(Sorry for the change in fabric - I forgot to stop and take pictures as I was videoing.)
Next cut a 2 inch square from each corner.
Make a cut every two inches along the side of the fabric.
Each cut should be two inches deep.
Repeat around all four sides of the blanket.
MAKING THE BOW EDGE
Using a seam ripper, cut a small hole in the fabric. This hole should be in the center along the top edge of the fringe.
Tip: Use the pointed end of the seam ripper to poke down and then back up through the fabric. Then push through to cut a small hole. This helps prevent accidental large holes. (See the video to see exactly how I learned this.)
Next insert the crochet hook into the hole you created.
Grab one of your fleece strips and pull it so that there is an end on both sides of the blanket.
Next, fold the fabric accordion style, folding it first up, then down.
Tie the strip of fabric around the bow, just like you would start to tie your shoe.
Insert the crochet hook into the hole again and pull the upper tie to the back of the fleece.
Turn the fabric so the back is facing up. Tie the two ends in a square knot on the back side.
From the front side, tug at the tails a bit to arrange them.
Repeat this process all the way around the blanket.
I had a lot of fun trying different colors and even trying some two toned versions.
