This is the best chili recipe (in my opinion). It's quick to make and tastes amazing. It's thick (no watery chili here) and warm and filling. Perfect for a cold winter day.
It's cooked all in one pot on the stove top. No slow cooker needed.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR CLASSIC CHILI RECIPE
This is a simple recipe with basic ingredients. For the chili beans, I recommend purchasing canned beans in red sauce, or chili sauce.
It's called different things depending on the brand. But that is part of what makes this chili so good. I guess you could call it my 'secret ingredient'.
For more depth of flavor, you can add freshly diced onions. I always use dried because it's quicker.
- lean ground beef
- dried onion flakes
- tomato paste
- water
- chili powder
- salt
- ground cumin
- black pepper
- garlic, minced (garlic powder works in a pinch)
- brown sugar
- chili beans (red beans in chili sauce)
- cheddar cheese
- sour cream
- saltines, crushed
HOW TO MAKE THIS EASY HOMEMADE CHILI RECIPE
Let's get to it! It's time to make this easy stovetop chili recipe!Printable recipe with quantities at the end of the post.
In a large soup pot, add the hamburger. Add the dried onion and minced garlic.
Cook over medium-high heat to brown the ground beef. Make sure the meat is cooked through and is no longer pink. Break up the meat into small pieces as it cooks.
Drain any excess grease from the burger.
Add tomato paste and water. Stir until all the paste is dispersed evenly throughout the soup.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.
Sometimes when I'm in a rush, I skip the simmering. I just get it hot and then we eat. Simmering will allow the flavors to meld together.
Ladle into serving bowls and add your desired toppings. I prefer cheese. My husband likes to add crushed saltine crackers as well. You could also add sour cream.
That's all there is to it. I told you it was a quick chili recipe!
Store leftover chili in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
