SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR HOT GLUE WAX SEALS
- Wax seal stamp
- Crystal clear hot glue sticks
- Low temperature glue gun (or dual-temp hot glue gun)
- 1" Circle punch
- Krylon gold leafing pen
- Parchment paper
- Ice pack
- Paper of your choice
HOW TO MAKE FAUX WAX SEALS
While your glue gun is heating up, place your wax seal stamp on an ice pack.
If the metal is cold, it won't stick to the glue.
This is the most IMPORTANT step! Don't skip it.
Next, punch out your paper with the circle punch.
Use the same size circle punch as the stamp size. For example: I'm using a 1" wax stamp, so I also use a 1" circle punch.
You'll want to choose a paper with a small pattern so you can see it well on the small seal.
You'll want paper that is thick as well, to help give the seal some stability.
Next, squeeze warmed up glue onto one of the paper circles.
Then place a cold wax stamp into the glue.
Because the glue is clear you have a second or two to reposition the stamp so it is directly above the paper circle.
Let cool for 30-90 seconds. When it comes easily off the parchment paper, you'll know it is cool. It is better to let it cool longer than shorter.
Once cool, remove the seal from the stamp.
Lastly, color the seal lip or edge with a Krylon gold leafing pen.
Once dry (at least 10 minutes), color the raised design portion of the seal with gold as well. The deeper the stamp impression the easier it will be to color.
You also want to have a lot of flow on the pen when doing the edge, but minimal flow when doing the raised design. Dab the pen on a paper towel to reduce the amount of flow.
I always do the outside rims of the seals and let dry, then do the inside raised design portion.
Let the gold ink dry for 10-20 minutes before handling.
If you happen to make a mistake and get gold where you don't want it, you can use a small craft swab and rubbing alcohol to clean off the leafing pen.
That's it! Use a glue dot or double-sided adhesive to attach your seal.
Hot glue seals are such a fun way to dress up a card or a gift! Seals are seriously so fun and I hope you enjoy making them!!
