Share your love with your missionary with a Valentine's Day care package.
A care package is the perfect Valentine's Day gift for a missionary.
VALENTINE'S CARE PACKAGE IDEA FOR MISSIONARIES
My son left home a few months ago to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's been an amazing experience so far. I am so grateful we get to talk and see each other each week via technology.
But sometimes I just yearn to give him a big ol' hug.
Since I can't, I send him lots of packages instead. It's fun to create themed care packages.
Today, I'm sharing what I sent for Valentine's Day.

WHAT TO PUT IN A VALENTINE'S CARE PACKAGE
Below are a few ideas to package up your love and send it to those far away, like missionaries, college students, or our military members.Remember to include things your loved one will enjoy, use, and/or need.
For my missionary, I try to send mostly consumable items. He moves often and I don't want him to have to lug around a bunch of stuff that's not being used frequently.
TREAT IDEAS
I added a few Valentine sweets, but a lot of it was things I knew he liked.
- Giant Reeses Pieces Heart
- Andes Mints
- Little Debbie Valentine's Cakes
- Rice Krispie Treats
- Peanut Butter Wafer Bars
- Granola Bars
- Ice Breakers
- Cinnamon Hearts
- Jerky
- Pop Tarts
- Cheese Whale Crackers
- Sweetheart Candies
I added a heart sticker to each treat to make it fun and a bit spiritual. Each sticker had a different scripture on it.
I printed out a page that said "God loved us so he sent His son!"
Then I added a picture of Jesus.
Below I wrote, "Each time you open a treat read the scripture on it to remember God's love for you!"
SCRIPTURES ABOUT LOVE
The scriptures were all about God's love. Here's a list of the ones I used, including a short summary- Jeremiah 31:3 "I have loved thee with an everlasting love"
- John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son"
- John 15:10 "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love"
- John 15:13-14 "Greater love hath no man than this..."
- Romans 8:39 Nothing "shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"
- 1 Corinthians 2:9 "Eye hath not seen... the things which God hath prepared from them that love him"
- 1 John 4:18 "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear"
- 1 John 4:19 "We love him, because He first loved us."
- 2 Nephi 1:15 "I am encircled about eternally in the arms of his love"
- 2 Nephi 4:21 "He hath filled me with His love"
- D&C 34:3 "Who so loved the world that He gave His own life"
- D&C 138:2-4 "And the great and wonderful love made manifest by the Father and the Son"
VALENTINE GIFT IDEAS (NON FOOD ITEMS)
I also included a few non-food items.I created these fun felt Valentine envelopes. I added a pack of gum and a $20. I sent one for each of his roommates.
I also sent a laser cut and engraved leather bookmark with his current favorite scripture which is Mosiah 5:15.
Lastly, included a bracelet with the youth theme for the year, "I am a disciple of Christ" I thought it was the perfect sentiment for a missionary too. It's a great way to display his faith. I got the bracelet from Deseret Book.
Another idea is to include a cookbook. I sent my son this in January.
I've made it available to print for FREE! There is also a clickable PDF version you could send to your missionary to have available anytime on his phone.
Find the FREE cookbook here.
It is designed specifically with missionaries in mind, with EASY meals perfect for beginners.
Since missionaries lives are full and busy, I included lots of QUICK meals they can throw together in a snap.
This would be great for a college kid too.
HOW TO TO DECORATE YOUR VALENTINE'S GIFT BOX
I think it's really fun to decorate the inside of the package. We decided to "heart-attack" him.
I cut out a bunch of hearts and had our family members all write little love notes to him. My girls drew pictures on some of the hearts too.
Then I taped them to the inside of the box.
Below are more ideas to decorate the box.
Adding printable stickers is an easy and fun way to decorate.
