Mother's Day is coming up soon! It almost always sneaks up on me. In over 7 years of blogging, this is only my second Mother's day craft. Can you believe that?! I need to get my act together. My other Mother's Day project was a necklace and keychain personalized with birthstone gems.
I actually made this apron last year for my mom. You may have seen it on Instagram (follow along!). She loved it and since I happened to snap pictures, I figured it's better late than never to share with you.
Embroidered Apron - A DIY Mother's Day Gift
I love this fun floral apron - I got it at Seagull Book. I'm not sure if they still carry this specific one, but they always have very inexpensive aprons.
Since it's spring and flowers are budding everywhere, you may also like this floral monogram I recently made.
Let's get started!
Supplies needed for an Embroidered Apron
apron with a pocket (pocket should be a mostly solid color)
embroidery pattern
coordinating embroidery thread
tracing paper
embroidery hoop
scissors
sewing machine or needle and thread
Stitches used in Mother's Day Apron
Below are the stitches I used in this project. I've link to video tutorials to explain the stitches.stem stitch - lettering
woven rose/wagon wheel stitch - flowers
lazy daisy stitch - flowers
french knot - center of flowers
backstitch - leaves
Steps to Embroidering an Apron for Mother's Day
Step 1 - Decide on a design for the pocket. (You can print off my floral grandma design, if desired)Step 2 - Remove the pocket from the apron, by unpicking the seam.
Step 3 - Place the tracing paper on the pocket. Place the embroidery pattern on top and then trace the pattern with a pencil.
Step 4 - Embroider the design.
Step 5 - Sew the pocket back onto the apron.
I hope you enjoy this project. It was fun for me to learn create something with some new stitches I had learned.
