Last fall I made a pinecone and flower wreath and added pumpkins and corn stalks to the porch. I thought it turned out pretty cute.
But for Christmas, I did nothing! I didn't even put a wreath on the door.
Spring is coming up and I've made a darling front door decoration with a faux umbrella and artificial flowers. I'm hoping to add a few other touches to create a nice spring vibe to my front porch.
Spring Decoration for Front Door PLUS Flower Arranging Tips
Do you ever see something and think "I gotta make that!"? That's how this project came about. I was browsing through my phone and saw something similar on Hobby Lobby's Instagram feed. I fell in love and a few hours later....
with my wallet a little lighter, I came home with the flowers and faux umbrella. {Plus a few other items I just couldn't pass up, which may make an appearance on the blog later on.}
Aren't the flowers so pretty!?! I got a variety of pink, purple and yellow flowers.
I grabbed a foam insert and used that to help keep the flowers where I wanted them.
I'm no pro at flower arranging - this is my first time attempting it. But I think it turned out ok. My daughter thought I had bought it. That's about the best compliment a crafter can receive.
I did not take any pictures of the process, but I have some tips for you.
Flower Arranging Tips
For what it's worth here are some flower arranging tips from a novice:1 - When buying, choose flower colors that go well together. I found stems with little colorful berries and used that as my color palette. Since I liked how the colors on the stems went together, I knew I would like flowers in those colors together as well. Choose various types of flowers in assorted sizes.
2 - Start arranging with your largest flowers first, and then add smaller flowers to fill in gaps.
3 - Consider height - you don't want all the flowers to be at the same level. Place taller flowers in the back, shorter ones in the front, etc.
4 - Intersperse colors throughout. As I was adding pieces, I tried to space out the colors, so that all the yellow flowers, for example, weren't bunched together.
5 - Add non-flower elements, if desired. I love this little bunny. Once Easter is over, it's easy enough to take out and keep the flowers on the front door through the rest of spring.
I'd love to add some other spring elements to the porch. But I need some ideas? What are some easy, inexpensive ways that you add spring touches to your front porch?
