Learn how to make a simple tassel necklace with classic gold chain, blue leather suede, and aqua stones. I'll show you how to make a beaded chain and a leather tassel. We'll bring it all together in a stunning necklace.
One of the things I love about blogging, is the people I get to meet and work with that I would not meet otherwise. I have been a Cousin Corporation brand ambassador for a few years now, and I've got to rub shoulders with some pretty amazing jewelry makers. One of them suggested we do a design challenge and blog hop. We did the same thing a few years ago. You can read about it here.
We all started out with the same jewelry supplies. This is what we got. We could add a few things of our own if we wanted too. The end result: Many different designs unique to each of us. Read through to the bottom, where I've linked to them all.
I decided to go with the faux druzy connector bead and the blue stones for my piece. I added some leather and gold chain from my own supplies.
Want to make your own Tassel Necklace?
You will need:
beads
connector charm
chain
suede cord
jump rings
wire
lobster claw clasp
glue
round nosed pliers
flat nosed pliers
wire cutters
Begin by making the tassel.
I used a blue suede cord. Cut 1 piece that is 5 1/2 inches long and 11 pieces that are 2 1/2 inches long. Fold the longer piece in half with a loop at the top. Hold all but one of the pieces together. The folded over loop should stick up a bit from the rest. Wrap the remaining piece around the others and add a dab of glue. I used a binder clip to hold it together until it dried completely.Next, we need to make 3 short beaded chains.
I used a wrapped loop method {seen above} to make my chains.1 - bend wire at a 90 degree angle
2 - with round-nosed pliers bend the wire forming a loop
3 - wrap the short wire around the long one
4 - clip off excess
5 - add a bead
6 - bend wire at a 90 degree angle - leave a little space so you can wrap in step 8
7 - bend the wire forming a loop
*Note* If you are adding a previously made bead to the chain this is where you add it. Slide it into the loop area of the wire
8 - wrap the wire around
9 - clip off excess
Make 3 chains with 4 beads each.
Now let's put the necklace together.
Cut 3 pieces of chain: 2 pieces 9" long, and 1 piece 3" long.Form a necklace by connecting the chain with the beaded chain we made above. Attach them to each other with jump rings in the following order: 9" chain, beaded chain, 3" chain, beaded chain, 9" chain. Attach a jump ring to one end and a lobster claw clasp to the other end.Finishing touches
Attach the tassel and the remaining beaded chain to the connector charm with a jump ring. Add it to the necklace. This connecting charm had a connector, but if yours doesn't just use a jump ring.Be sure to see what my sparkle sisters came up with too:
