These adorable little balls are irresistible. Once you make one, you won't be able to stop. Believe me, I ended up with over 20 of them.

How to Make Yarn Pom Poms

I made a garland to dress up my home for Valentines. I also made some to toss in a basket. 

I went through my yarn stash and found two colors of pink and a color that I believe is called pink camo.  I love the nontraditional pop of green and brown it brings. 

{By the way, I used the pink camo yarn to make my girls some crocheted mittens last winter.}

Supplies for DIY Pom Poms

• yarn
• scissors
• your fingers

Steps to Make Yarn Pom Poms

Step 1: Place the end of the yarn on your fingers. Depending on the size you want, use two, three or four fingers.

Step 2: Wrap yarn around your fingers. The more you wrap the fuller the pom pom will be. Oh, and try not to wrap it too tight or you'll cut off the circulation in your fingers. Just sayin'.

Step 3: Cut the yarn and then cut a piece that is about 12 inches long. You don't need to measure, just make sure it's long enough to tie around the yarn and have some excess. Insert the end of the yarn between your fingers.

Step 4: Pull it through the other side. You may have to use something {like the scissors} to help you push the yarn through. You now have the piece of yarn on one side of the pom pom.

Step 5: Wrap the yarn around through the tips of the fingers and tie the beginning of a knot. Pull this tight. After making a few of these I found that tying the knot on the palm side of my hand was easier.

 

Step 6: Carefully slide the yarn off of your fingers.

Step 7: Pull the the yarn tight and finish off the knot, making sure it is secure.

Step 8: Now it's time to cut your yarn. Slide your scissors into the loops and cut. Do this all the way around the pom pom. As you are doing this, be sure to keep your long pieces out of the way. You will want these long pieces to hang the pom pom with.

Step 9: This is what it should look like at this point.

Step 10: Now just give it a trim so it doesn't look so scraggly.

There you go! Now go through your yarn stash and see what color combos you can come up with.
